The National Institute of Siddha (NIS), located in Chennai, is a premier autonomous institution under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. Established in 2005 at Tambaram Sanatorium, it serves as a “Center of Excellence” dedicated to the advancement of the Siddha system of medicine. Its primary mission is to provide high-quality postgraduate (M.D.) and doctoral (Ph.D.) education, while recently introducing undergraduate (B.S.M.S.) courses to nurture a new generation of Siddha physicians.Beyond education, NIS is a hub for scientific research, aiming to validate traditional Siddha formulations through modern clinical and pharmaceutical standards. The institute also operates the Ayothidoss Pandithar Hospital, a 120-bed facility that provides affordable healthcare to over 1,500 out-patients daily. By integrating ancient wisdom with modern medical science, NIS plays a pivotal role in the global propagation of Siddha medicine, focusing on holistic health, water conservation via its eco-friendly campus, and community-based medical outreach.
